It is now ready for download for beta testers! This release is a scalability-focused update of OVD 2.0.3 for large Ulteo deployements, though including some new features and bug fixes. Here is the list of changes: Features: -------- o Application Server (linux): create parallel processes that can launch more sessions to handle a larger number of users and decrease session start duration o Session Manager: improve handling of a large number of users, including better LDAP & Active Directory link (tested with more than 50,000 users directories). o Added "external" session mode to launch applications from an external portal/website Improvements: ------------ o Adminstration console: added more statistics about sessions and status o Adminstration console: added page changer to session and server pages o Adminstration console: added autodetection of web browser language Bugfixes: -------- o Adminstration console: Do not allow empty password on Administrator password modification o Applet: Handle anonymous proxies o Session Manager: Fix load balancing of server o Application Server (linux): Clean the x11-unix file before and after starting VNC server o Application Server (linux): Flush orders for windows which was not maximized after a maximize order o Application Server (windows): Use a better method to get memory avalaible (for memory > 4GB) Others: ------ o Added Japanese language All information about downloading and reporting bugs is available at: http://www.ulteo.com/home/en/ovdi/openvirtualdesktop/download2.5 We are waiting for your feedback! Lastly, has there ever been any thought to Ulteo talking to any of the remote desktop vendors. The GPL'd x2go group's project would make remote Ulteo sessions much better performing (x2go uses the gpl'd nx transport protocol libraries). I'd at least think about what integrating the two projects might provide? x2go for the remote desktop and Ulteo for the server/desktop environment and overall management? I've used NoMachine and FreeNX and x2go was the first that implemented audio/sound correctly. Also, its printing and directory shares work between the remote and local machine. We have a long features roadmap on which we have been working on for more than 12 months for the main ones, even before the first 2.x release. Regarding NX, it was a candidate as a core protocol for Ulteo at the begining of the project because it was an excellent protocol on many aspects. But we have decided not to use it for several reasons, including the fact that it was very plateform dependant. Additionnally, more and more we are going to an equal support of Windows and Linux on both the server(s) and the client OS, so we need to choose and develop technologies that fit that goal. For your information, Ulteo won't use VNC anymore starting from version 3.x. In order to summarise our product roadmap "vision", we are not seeking the perfect protocol, or the perfect such or such feature, we are trying to develop the most acceptable and best Open Source global alternative as a client-server and virtualization infrastructure solution.
